While in Japan I DJ’d a few times with my friend Chris Tate. I got this goofy idea to make goggles that glowed in sync with our global Ableton Live tempo. The project turned into goggles and a T-shirt.

The full project used Ableton Live, MaxMSP, an Arduino, and custom circuitry. Global tempo was passed from Ableton Live to MaxMSP through the ReWire protocol which was then fed to the Arduino, pulsing each EL wire with one of its six PWM (Pulse-width modulation) outputs.

I will release the full MaxMSP patch soon. Thankfully I was able to use the firmata system with Maxduino to avoid any crazy-custom Arduino programming.
